Carnaby Street Still As Vibrant As in the 60's

Early on, in the 16th century, Carnaby Street was just another hunting ground. Hunters would call the place "Soho", giving the place a name. The 17th century brought on the plague so the area was used to bury the dead.

The Street got its name from a man name Richard Tyler who built a huge house on the east side of the street and named it Karnaby House. The houses that were originally built were rebuilt and the street took on the name of Carnaby Street. The Street feels more like a village than just a street, due to the fact that it is a street for pedestrians only. No motor vehicles are allowed on this street.

In this area of central London you can find all types of things to purchase. There are still some of the shops here from back in the day with some 60's style to it. You can find plenty of mod gear here from just about any store. Carnaby Street is the place for all the hippie clothes and shoes you want. Back in the 60's, it was the heart of a Swinging London. You could buy young and trendy clothing anywhere.

Their were a lot of famous bands playing in the area as well. The Beatles, The Who, and Rolling Stones are just a few of the bands that would play around the corner on Wardour Street. They would socialize and shop so this help to make Carnaby Street the coolest place to hang out. It was the Swinging Sixties Street.

Today, Carnaby Street still has some of the old shops with the hippie and mod attire to choose from, as well as near by London hotels. There have also been some hit songs named after it as well as Heath Ledger's Joker outfit from the 2008 film The Dark Knight, and the Street has also been seen on the hit T.V. series The Simpsons. You can find plenty of bars and restaurants on Carnaby Street today.

While Carnaby Street is changing with the times a bit, you can still find old shops and people who remember the place from back in the day. All the new shops might take over a bit but they won't replace what Carnaby Street was and what it still is to a lot of people. You can still enjoy the walk along the only place where no vehicles are allowed to drive.
