Borough Market London

If you're a tourist in London and want to visit somewhere completely different to Buckingham Palace or the Houses of Parliament or just want somewhere original to go for lunch, get the tube or hop on a London bus to Borough or London Bridge on the south side of the River Thames and discover Borough Market. Set under the overground railway line you will enter a different world of food.

This wonderful, bustling, vibrant food market has to be one of the best if not in London in the world. Divided into four main sections, it's a maze of gourmet food stalls with traders eagerly offering to share their produce with you, as you wander around you'll pass such culinary delights from fresh Pecorino cheese straight from Tuscany to chocolaty crumbly fudge where the sugar is ethically sourced from West Kenya, I have a real hard time getting past this one!

There's a great selection of every type of food and drink imaginable, check out the stall with the finest English fruit juices with no added anything!

You'll be encouraged to sample a selection of their aromatic blends made from every fruit under the sun. I'm getting the feel good health factor now; well I was until I stumbled upon the Ion Patisserie stall round the corner with its incredible offerings of caralamised apple cheesecake and chocolate and vanilla puzzle cake not forgetting the flourless baked chocolate truffles, to be honest the list is endless.

The produce is outstanding, providing some of the best restaurants and eating places in London including Harrods and Harvey Nichols, where you'll be buying the best Italian pasta handmade by specialist pasta chefs, using only the finest sourced ingredients and made to traditional Italian recipes.

On the side of the market is Neal's Yard Dairy, a cheese shop with a fine water mist gently spraying to keep the cheeses at the right climate and a never ending queue but worth the wait.

I've never actually counted how many stalls there are, but it takes about 3 hours to get round all of them. It's under cover and open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Just Google Borough Market, their site will give you all the information you'll ever need. We often trip up to London and visit the market it gives us superb ideas for our foodie blog. The husband goes for the salt beef sub!
